New National Building Regulations

Posted on 24th May 2023

A Building Regulation application is valid for three years from the date of deposit. If you have started the works within the three years, there is no time limit to finish, however, the onus is on the owner to ensure regular visits from the Building Inspector to check progress are being requested.

New National Building Regulations came into effect in June 2022.

The new regulations will substantially affect persons planning to construct, extend, or modify homes, as well as architects and other professionals in the field.

Whilst the new regulations came into effect from June 2022, a one-year grace period currently exists.

Thus, if your project received Building Regulation permission before 15th June 2022, the old requirements continue to apply. However, you have until 15th June 2023 to start the work before the approval expires.

Failure to start before this date means you will have to comply with the new regulations, and it is your responsibility to know how they may affect the work you are doing.
