Process

Our working process is straightforward and professional.

Not everyone is familiar with how architectural services work, and we understand that engaging a consultant might feel daunting. We therefore make a point of ensuring that clients understand where they are in the process, each step of the way.

Essentially, when we work on a project, there are five stages:

  • Stage One
The process starts with an initial site visit. Once we’ve looked at the site and discussed your ideas, we’ll be able to advise you on design, any planning approval you may require, approximate build costs and timescales. We’ll then provide a written quotation.

  • Stage Two
If you agree to use our services, we carry out a survey of the existing building or site. With this more detailed information, we consider the best ways of turning your ideas into reality. We’ll produce sketch scheme designs of your options and talk these through with you.

  • Stage Three
Once you have decided which scheme you want, we prepare planning drawings for your approval. If it’s necessary, we’ll also submit a planning application on your behalf to the Local Authority – if it isn’t, we will have already advised you of this.

  • Stage Four
Once planning approval has been granted (assuming it was necessary), the project proceeds to the final stage. This is where we produce building regulation drawings. These are highly detailed technical drawings that your builders can begin work from. They can also be used to obtain quotations from builders. At the same time, we will submit your building regulation application to the Building Control department of the relevant Local Authority.

  • Stage Five
Generally, a competent and experienced contractor will be able to complete the building works from the Building Regulation Drawings. However, there may be aspects of your project that are not covered, e.g. electrical and plumbing layouts. We can prepare these layouts if required.

And that’s it! Some more complex projects might need additional services, such as a structural engineer, but rest assured that we’ll always advise you of this at the start of the project.
